How can we make the value of nature visible?

Nature is valuable. It provides significant societal and economic benefits for us as humans. In addition, nature holds intrinsic value. However, the exact value of nature is not always immediately clear. Increasingly, it is important to make the value of nature visible in order to inform decisions about how we design and manage our landscapes.
Our approach
We help make both the economic and societal value of nature-inclusive measures visible across various impact domains: water, soil, climate, landscape, and biodiversity. We do this in three phases:
- Exploratory analysis: We identify the effects of measures through desk research and interviews, and develop a schematic overview of the measure(s), their effects, and the expected value.
- Valuation and calculation: We substantiate the value of the effects and map out the costs and benefits.
- Translation into action: We translate this value into financing opportunities and policy recommendations, and further develop promising scenarios.
In the brochure, we describe how we do this and share examples of projects where we have made the value of nature visible. Want to learn more or grab a coffee sometime? Feel free to contact our colleagues Tom Meijer or Merlissa Diele.
