For the Testlab New Nature & Small-Scale Living, De Natuurverdubbelaars have been working closely with the Institute for Social Innovation on several fronts: as initiators and as authors of the New Nature & Small-Scale Living guideline for MooiNL, part of the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO). Here’s a brief update on these initiatives:
On Tuesday, September 3rd, an alliance meeting was held to further develop the New Nature & Small-Scale Living (NNKW) guideline. In Utrecht, alliance members from governments, initiators, and specialists gathered to shape this practical document. The guideline aims to inspire municipalities and provinces and provide practical tools to facilitate initiatives focused on new nature and small-scale housing. It’s the ninth publication in the MooiNL guideline series by the Ministry of VRO. Read more here.
One week later (Tuesday, September 10th), the Testlab hosted a meeting on combining land uses in rural areas. Integrating new nature, extensive agriculture, and small-scale housing is a promising way to make more efficient use of available space in the Netherlands. Over 50 civil servants from municipalities, provinces, ministries, and local initiatives came together to explore possibilities. Read more here.
It’s also worth noting that the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) recently published a Guideline for farmyard transformations for municipalities. This document helps local authorities support farmers’ transition initiatives using instruments from the new Environmental and Planning Act. The guideline outlines what these transformations can look like and the legal frameworks that can be applied.
A webinar on farmyard transformations and housing will take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM. [Click here to register.] A previous webinar is available for replay on YouTube: Webinar on the farmyard transformation guideline.
