The “Biodiversity on Your Plate” program was developed to connect the hospitality sector with nature-inclusive and organic farmers. Under the slogan “Eat your world better!”, chefs, restaurants, and caterers can make a meaningful contribution to the conservation and restoration of biodiversity. This can be done by featuring “biodiversity-friendly” products on their menus and communicating about them with guests. When the hospitality industry incorporates biodiversity-friendly products, they encourage producers to consider nature and landscape in their practices. The program also offers many other benefits.
Biodiversity on Your Plate was developed by Dutch Cuisine. Dutch Cuisine promotes Dutch culinary heritage and food culture both nationally and internationally to a broad audience. By placing (local, seasonal) vegetables at the center of the plate and giving fish and meat a supporting role, Dutch Cuisine encourages chefs to cook delicious, healthy, and responsible meals with an eye on a sustainable food system. Dutch Cuisine supports chefs, restaurants, and caterers in responding to trends, driving innovation, and positively standing out in the market.
Nature^Squared contributed to the development of the monitoring framework and provide expert judgements to assess the eligibility of nature-inclusive farmers participating in the program.
